The holiday season can be full of joy, family, and stress! Pets are great at relieving our stress, and what better way to spend the season than getting quality time with them? Whether or not your pets get gifts for the holidays, you can show them you love them by spending time together. Here are some ideas for ways to include your pets in the activities this holiday season!
Pictures with Santa
I took my dog Ellie to get a picture taken with Santa a few years ago and we had so much fun! Many shelters, pet stores, and more will have Santa come to take pictures with pets. It’s usually free or cheap, and sometimes all donations go to the shelter hosting. Dress up your dog for extra cuteness!
Idea for this year’s Santa picture: The San Diego Humane Society is hosting an upcoming Mutt Mixer at their Escondido campus. They’ll have pictures with Santa, treats and desserts, and trainers will be available to answer dog questions. More info can be found here:

Take a walk
If your dog isn’t fearful, looking at the decorations together can be a blast! Many people flock to certain neighborhoods that are known for their amazing decorations. Taking a nice nighttime walk to see all the Christmas lights is fun for both of you! Skip this one if your dog is reactive to people, other dogs, or would be afraid of the lights.
Crafts with your pets
Making an ornament, advent calendar, or other decoration with your pets is a fun activity you can do from home! Try making a paw imprint ornament, using pet safe paint and stamping their paw, or make them an advent calendar with treats in it!
Snuggle up!
If you’re more of a homebody or not feeling crafty, snuggle up with your pets and watch some holiday movies together! You could buy or make them a nice treat to enjoy while you’re snuggled up, or just grab some warm blankets and enjoy the time together!
