Wildfires & Pet Safety

With these devastating wildfires running rampant,  it is important to remember a few things to be prepared in case of an emergency.  Besides being prepared for you and your family’s safety, it’s always a great idea to have a plan in place for your pets as well.
Some ways you can be prepared during fire season, or really any natural disaster, is to always have your pet microchipped and have them wear proper identification tags. It is always important to keep leashes close to doors in an event of an emergency and keep pet carriers in easy to reach places. Having a rescue alert sticker in a clearly visible area is another great way to let a rescue team and firemen know you have pets inside that may need to be rescued in an unfortunate situation. This clearly identifies how many pets may be inside and of which kind.
Besides having leashes and carriers readily available,  it is important to also have an emergency kit for your furry friends, filled with food, water, and any medications they may need. It’s also important to have any vet or animal hospital information on hand in case of an emergency.
It is also necessary to know where your pet’s favorite hiding spots and relaxation stations are in case you and your family need to evacuate quickly and effortlessly.
Any unexpected emergency can be uncomfortable and disheartening, yet it is always great to be prepared ahead of time to protect you and your furry friends. Stay strong California,  we can get through this together! Jen Loves Pets greatly appreciates our first responders and all they do for our community.
