Summertime Dog Treat Recipes

Want a way to cool of your pup during this warm weather? These frozen dog treat recipes will even have your mouth watering and they are so easy to make!

Watermelon Refreshers

Watermelon is the perfect refreshing treat for your dog as each bite contains around 92% water, which helps to keep your four-legged friend hydrated.

  1. Simply blend slices of watermelon, removing the skin and seeds first, then place this mixture into an ice cube tray.
  2. Freeze for approximately 6 hours and then they are ready for your dog to enjoy on a hot summer day. I am sure even you would enjoy these tasty cubes!

Carrot & Apple Bites

The perfect homemade dog treats for a warm day, with two ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.

  1. It is as simple as blending 1 peeled carrot with 1 cored and apple without the seeds along with a dash of water.
  2. Then pour the puree into cube tray molds and leave to freeze.

PB& J Doggy Delights

Peanut butter and jelly is one of those classics we have all enjoyed as a child. It is a wonderful comfort food-inspired snack and great flavor combo that your pups can enjoy as well. Using natural peanut butter, (be careful not to use peanut butter that contains xylitol, as this is dangerous for dogs.) these frozen beauties are a healthy treat for your dog.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of strawberries
  • ¼ cup of water
  • A few dollops of natural xylitol-free peanut butter (Xylitol is a sweetener sometimes found in peanut butter that is toxic to dogs.)
  1. Wash your strawberries thoroughly and slice off the tops.
  2. Add your strawberries and water to the blender and blend until you form a smooth puree.
  3. Pour the liquid into your ice cube trays and fill around ¾ of the way.
  4. Grab a teaspoon and add a small amount of the peanut butter into each slot.
  5. Pop your tray into the freezer and leave until completely frozen.
  6. Yum!  Serve these delicious treats straight out of the freezer and watch your pup enjoy.

Strawberry Yogurt Surprise

These are a real taste of summer and a refreshing creamy treat. So delicious, even you could enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of strawberries
  • 1 cup of Greek or plain yogurt

Wash Strawberries, dunk into yogurt and freeze for about an hour or so, repeat a second time for a thoroughly coated Strawberry. Make sure to remove the tops of the strawberries before serving to Fido!

For a “lazier” version of these treats, you can fill a Kong or classic ice cube tray with Organic Beef Broth, Organic Chicken Broth, or even Greek Yogurt.

Hope all the pups out there will enjoy these tasty, summer treats!
